Rarely can it have happened that a new ambassador presents his credentials to the President of Hungary in the morning and then hosts his country's National Day celebration hours later in the evening, but the double duty fell to Ambassador Bhakavat Tanskul of Thailand at the Hungarian Heritage House in Budapest's District I on December 6.

Programmes begin on Kossuth tér at 8.30 a.m. Saturday morning where the national flag will be hoisted while soldiers present a military salute and army offers are inaugurated. Defence Minister István Simicskó will welcome the crowd after which President János Áder will deliver a speech.

August 20th is Hungary's National Day commemorating King Stephen, the first king of the Hungarian sand the founder of the Hungarian state. He led in the Catholicism with the protection of Rome. He was canonised and became St. Stephen on 20th August 1083. On this day the whole country celebrates with concerts, Holy Mass and fireworks.

On 20 August, Hungary’s national holiday marking the country’s founding, President of the Republic János Áder presented internationally acknowledged Nobel Prize-winning author Imre Kertész and internationaly reknown inventor Ernő Rubik with the Order of Saint Stephen at the proposal of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
